Sanchez,Jennifer Blog #3 Feminism Responce to "Miss Repesentation"

In the video "Miss Represenation"  women and men made commentary about how women are viewed and thought of in America's society.  A few statements were: that we americans assume negative things will happen if women take charge and as we grow up women are shown how to care about our appearence.

With the  first statement I don't agree because not all the women will make a negative impact on society or in any aspect in life. Being this said there has not been a female president in the United States as mentioned in this video.  There has not been a lot of congress women either over the past 100 years or so. In an episode of family guy, Louis a women that it married and is raising kids runs for mayor. She ends up winning but her husband wants her to not to be president because of all the" good" things she is doing which a few people wouldn't agree with so that's what I remember from that episode. Within the show a the news made fun of Louis saying If she was going to make change or just have her menstration all over the place. That being said not having a lot of women in politics can imply to us that our society possibly thinks women can bring a negative impact. I ask myself in what way? Women for centuries have taken care of their children. husbands, and a few here and there have worked. Most women I'd should say want the best for their family and would maybe want to make a change. A good change, if they got more involved and were heard more in this country.
Another quote said was that women and girls have been taught to care about their appearance. Barbies start to teach girls how to look good and watch what they where. Besides Barbies, Disney movies and commercials show us how the dolls show skin such as cleavage, legs. Etc. In the Disney movies is also shows girls how the princesses care about what they are going to wear. Girls shouldn't care about what they wear in my opinion. This being said it made me observe my girl cousins that are under the age of 12. When we are about to go to a special event or a simple get together with family they worry about what they are going to wear. They go through their closets looking for something that looks good, and my youngest cousin that is 9 in particular loves playing with Barbies. She loves creating outfits and figuring out what looks good on a doll. At her age she shouldn't be worrying about what to wear, instead she shouldn't worry about playing with her friends and having fun.
Whether we haven't been that much politically active or have been shown all our lives how to care for our appearance we still are being judged and being made fun of. Like in family guy making fun of women's menstruation cycle or Disney princess movies showing/implying us that we should care for our appearance because we can be made fun of or judged by how we look.
