I mainly agree with the sentiments being expressed because I think that women should be equals to men in society. Now to me that doesn’t necessarily mean in politics. I do believe that women should be able to have equal power to men, but I would not feel comfortable having a women run our country, and I know that this isn’t just an issue for men but also in women. My family is very traditional and we believe that a man is supposed to be in charge. It has been that way for thousands of years, why would we change that. My opinion wasn’t based off mainstream media, it was based off the way my family was raised.
As Lisa Ling said, “As a culture, women are brought up to be fundamentally insecure and always looking for the time when that knight on a horse will come and rescue us or provide for us.” Immediately when she said this I thought of almost every chick flick I have watched over time. But to relate it to just one I would say the movie Enchanted. We have a young girl that is taken away from a world she once knew to some where almost completely foreign to her. And next thing we know theirs this big city guy taking her in and saving her. When Rosario Dawson says, “It’s extremely important for women to be writing their own stories, truly crafting those stories, writing them down, directing them and giving them to people to really emotionally become impacted by.” The television show I pictured was Gossip Girl. We have blair waldorf who is completely her own person. She is an independent individual, trying to work her way to the top of a business empire that men dominate. I believe that the television show is trying to send out the message that women can strive in a business environment. Just because the men have more power now, doesn’t mean women won’t fight back 10x harder to get to the top.
