Blog Post #1 - Question #1
In the poem "My Ex-Husband" by Gabriel Spera writes about a seemingly self-absorbed woman who, when her date notices the photo, goes on and on about the framed photograph of her ex-husband in great detail. The paradox of this piece is that she says that she says has moved on but it is obvious she still dwells on the past, "Whatever could have made me let him go He seems like any woman's perfect catch, What with his ruddy cheeks, the neat mustache, Those close-set, piercing eyes, that titled grin". It's possible that, based on this passage, she still thinks of him romantically but the dialogue feels like it has more of a sarcastic tone to it as if she were mocking him. Where the irony lies in this poem is that she comes off as pleased that she got out of the relationship there seems to be a hint of melancholy in her words. A solution to the paradox could be that even though she still talks about the divorce, an emotionally demanding and challenging time for anyone I'm sure, she has grown from the experience and has become more comfortable talking about it.

I thought you did a good job examining the symbolism of the poem.
